The weather was just perfect for the Family Festival and US 10K Classic, which took place over the holiday weekend. The Labor Day race once again brought together runners, walkers, inline skaters, professional cyclists and wheelchair athletes from all across the southeast to raise money and support for the World Children’s Center.
The winning female runner was Janet Cherobon, who completed the race in just over 35 minutes. Ronald Kurui won the men’s race with a time of 31 minutes, 50 seconds. Winners were also announced for cyclists, wheelchair athletes and inline skaters. More than 11,000 total people participated in the race.
The kickoff for the race was a Family Festival on Saturday and Sunday in the Galleria Garden. Be sure to check out our photo album from the Family Festival on the Atlanta Galleria’s Facebook page.
Infinite Energy, which had karaoke at its booth, was the title sponsor of the Family Festival. There were also booths with running gear, T-shirts, colored popcorn, checkups from chiropractors and more. The kids’ section included bungee trampoline bouncing, face painting, crawling races for the tots, etc. The Kids’ Classic races also were a hit.
The total amount raised this weekend will not be tallied for a few weeks, but this year’s event is predicted to meet or exceed last year’s total of $465,000 for the World Children’s Center and other children’s charities in Georgia.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support this great cause. We at the Atlanta Galleria are proud to be a part of helping give back to the community and look forward to finding more ways to serve you!
