Jazz It Up. Lovers of jazz and big-band music will want to catch The Atlanta Lyric Orchestra’s presentation of “Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies,” a musical that has won two Tony Awards, at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre in the Cobb Civic Center.
The musical features such classics as “It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing,” “Take the ‘A’ Train” and “In a Sentimental Mood.”
The show runs from Friday, Jan. 3, through Sunday, Jan. 19. Tickets range from $32 to $52. Visit the Atlanta Lyric Theater website for show times and to purchase tickets.
Run For Your Lungs. Fight the cold this Saturday, Jan. 4, and head out to Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta for the American Lung Association Fight For Air Run, Walk & Relay. This 5K event for everyone, as participants can run or walk to raise awareness of lung disease.
Registration is $30. You can register either online by clicking here or by visiting any Big Peach Running Company store.

Going Green for the Trees. Keep Cobb Beautiful is teaming up with select Home Depot locations this Saturday to host the annual Bring One For The Chipper Christmas tree recycling event. The trees collected at the drop-off points are recycled to create mulch, fuel, wildlife habitats and other materials.
Trees can be dropped off from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Click here for a full list of collection sites.

Going to the Chapel. The always-popular Georgia Bridal Show will be at the Cobb Galleria Centre this Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Launched in 1990, the Georgia Bridal Show gives brides the chance to meet with vendors, see the latest bridal fashions, and enter contests to win free wedding prizes and spectacular honeymoons.
