Marietta-ville. This Friday, put on your Hawaiian shirt and head down to Glover Park in Marietta at 8 p.m. to hear A1A, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, in the latest installment of the Glover Park Concert Series.
The series is free all summer long, but tables are also available for each concert. Six-person tables can be reserved for $45 and eight-person tables for $55 by calling (770) 794-5601.
The next — and last — concert in the series is Sept. 27, when Motown group Kasper and the 911 Band will play.
Meetups. Have you heard of Meetup.com? The social networking site brings together groups of like-minded people for outings based on their interests. Smyrna Patch has put together a short list of Smyrna and Vinings area Meetup groups, which you can read here.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun, a Smyrna group for young professional women, has a hike up Kennesaw Mountain planned for this Saturday at 9 a.m. Click here to learn more about the group.
Hometown Showdown. This Saturday, the Marietta Derby Darlins will present Marietta Mayhem, a double-header roller derby event debuting two home teams: the Air Raid Sirens and the Bombshell Brawlers.
The event takes place at the Cobb County Civic Center, located at 548 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for kids ages 6 to 12 and free for kids under 5. The bouts start at 4 p.m. Visit www.mariettaderbydarlins.com for more information.
Crochet for a Cause. Looking for a way to give back? Come out Saturday for Yarn, Hook and Tea, a crocheting event to create shawls for cancer patients. Meet at Rev Coffee in Smyrna at 4 p.m. to pitch in with your crocheting skills. Shawls will be donated to patients through the Living Beyond Breast Cancer organization.
