Honoring Heroes. The Marietta Museum of History is presenting the fourth-annual Hearts for Heroes event this Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m. at the Strand Theatre in Marietta. Hearts for Heroes is a night to celebrate, honor and remember local military members for their service to the country.
The event will feature inspirational speeches from three Medal of Honor recipients and a celebration of “citizen-soldiers” who have made the transition from serving in the military to civilian service, according to a story in the Marietta Daily Journal.
Local singer-songwriter Corey Crowder, whose songs have been featured on television shows such as “One Tree Hill” and “The Real World,” will also perform. The city of Marietta and Cobb County will be recognized for their contributions to local military personnel.
Tickets are $30 for a general ticket or $125 for VIP tickets, which include a reception at the home of former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes. Tickets can be purchased online.
Your Name in Lights. Have you always wanted to be in the spotlight? The Smyrna Village Players are holding open auditions for its summer production of “Fiddler on the Roof.” The company is looking for actors of all ages and experience levels.
Auditions will be held Sunday, March 3, and Monday, March 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Smyrna First United Methodist Church. Actors can come any time during those hours with a photo and resume. Actors will perform cold readings. Men will be asked to sing “If I Were a Rich Man,” and women will sing “Matchmaker.”

Eat Right. The Greater Atlanta Dietetic Association is hosting a free screening of HBO’s “Weight of the Nation,” a documentary about America’s health problems, on Saturday, March 2, at the Cobb Central Library. A question-and-answer session with registered dietician Sherry Collins will follow the screening.
The event lasts from noon to 1:30 p.m. Cobb Central Library is located at 266 Roswell Street in Marietta.
Begin March with Verdi. The Atlanta Opera’s rendition of Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” begins this weekend at the Cobb Energy Centre. The opera, which will be sung in Italian with projected English translations, is a romantic tragedy that deals with family strife, unfortunate misunderstanding and selfless sacrifice.
